"I pray too, Rodrigues. It doesn't help. Go on, pray. But pray with your eyes open." Director: Martin Scorsese Writers: Martin Scorsese, Jay Cocks and Shûsaku Endô Cinematographer: Rodrigo Prieto Composers: Kathryn Kluge and Kim Allen Kluge Cast: Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, Yôsuke Kubozuka, Issei Ogata, Shin'ya Tsukamoto, Yoshi Oida and Ciarán Hinds Review: Finally i got to see this movie! Martin Scorcese is my all time favorite director so any year he releases a new one it's pretty much always my most anticipated movie of that year. This movie took forever to play anywhere near me though and that's a shame because i really liked it. It's not a perfect movie or even one of Scorcese's best, but still a great movie. I'm not a religious person myself, but i could still feel with the characters in this movie and their struggle to keep their faith. The performances all around were pretty much great, but i do have to admit that maybe Andrew Garfield wasn't the best choice for the lead. He was a bit miscast here i felt. I usually like him, and i did here too, but i feel the performance could have been so much more powerful with someone else. I also found it odd that him and Adam Driver were portraying Portuguese people. They don't look or sound Portuguese at all. But that didn't bother me too much. Liam Neeson was great though for what little time he was on screen. I wish we had gotten more from him. But the actors i were most impressed with were the Japanese cast. Not a weak performance among them. And the directing from Martin Scorcese was on top as usual. That man shows no signs of slowing down in any way. He still continues to impress me with every movie he puts out. Now i just have to wait for the blu-ray to come out so i can watch it again in peace. This has nothing to do with the movie, but i just have to get it off my chest. When i was watching it today for some reason a group of teenagers were sitting in front of me and they were one of the most annoying group of people i have ever witnessed at the cinema. It seemed like they had no interest in the movie and were checking their phones, talking and laughing throughout the movie at the most inappropriate moments. Some people even tried to talk to them and they completely ignored them. Thankfully that is not something that usually happens at the theater i go to, but it really pisses me off when it does.

"I know this is personal and that's how you'll fail. No speeches. You point the gun, you shoot." Director: Jeremy Saulnier Writer: Jeremy Saulnier Cinematographer: Jeremy Saulnier Composers: Brooke Blair and Will Blair Cast: Macon Blair, Devin Ratray, Amy Hargreaves, Kevin Kolack, Eve Plumb, David W. Thompson, Brent Werzner, Stacy Rock and Sidné Anderson Review: Green Room was one of my favorite movies from last year so i wanted to check out the directors previous movie as well. And i guess it's safe to say Jeremy Saulnier is specialising in very bleak movies. Don't expect any happy endings from him. His movies are however very good. I liked Green Room better, but i still really enjoyed this. It does drag on a bit at times and felt way longer than 90 minutes. But damn if it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat for most of it. Definitely worth checking out if you were a fan of Green Room. Jeremy Saulnier is a director i'm going to keep an eye out for in the future.

"Welcome back to the Army, Major. You're under arrest." Director: Edward Zwick Writers: Edward Zwick, Richard Wenk, Marshall Herskovitz and Lee Child Cinematographer: Oliver Wood Composer: Henry Jackman Cast: Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Patrick Heusinger, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge, Holt McCallany, Robert Knepper, Madalyn Horcher and Robert Catrini Review: Unlike John Wick 2, this unfortunately did not live up to the first one. Tom Cruise is usually great in action movies, but here he just looked bored for most of the time. The action was also very boring here. Nothing really stood out in any way. The villains were also all very forgettable. I still remember how scary Werner Herzog was in the first Jack Reacher, but i doubt i will remember the bad guys here tomorrow. Cobie Smulders was very good here though. She really was the saving grace of the movie. If not for her this movie would have probably gotten an even lower score from me. And that is a shame because i really wanted this to be good. This could have been a new, more grounded action franchise for Tom Cruise. Hopefully if they ever do decide to make a third one, it's with Christopher McQuarrie as the writer and director again. He knows what he's doing.

"Whoever comes, I'll kill them. I'll kill them all." Director: Chad Stahelski Writer: Derek Kolstad Cinematographer: Dan Laustsen Composers: Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard Cast: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, Common, Claudia Gerini, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo, Peter Serafinowicz, Peter Stormare and Laurence Fishburne Review: John Wick was one of the biggest surprises of 2014 so i was very excited to see it's sequel. This is not usually the type of movie i go out to watch in theaters, but i had to make an exception here and i'm glad i did. I dodn't know if i liked this better than the first one, but it's certainly on par with it. The action is all great, and that is really all that matters here. The story is again your typical revenge story. Pretty much the same as the first one. John Wick does not want to do this, but some people just has to make him mad. So if you liked the first one, i don't see how you could not like this one as well. I hope they keep making these.

"That's as stiff as you like and it won't damage your rug. That's what i told her!" Director: Ricky Gervais Writer: Ricky Gervais Cinematographer: Remi Adefarasin Composer: --- Cast: Ricky Gervais, Doc Brown, Jo Hartley, Mandeep Dhillon, Tom Bennett, Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, Abbie Murphy and Rebecca Gethings Review: The Office is one of my favorite TV shows. And while i am one of the few who prefer the American version over the UK one, i do like that the UK one knew when to end it. It didn't drag on for way too long like the American version did. So i was a bit surprised when i found out we were getting a David Brent movie. I didn't really think that was necessary. But i decided to give it a shot anyway. And while it was nowhere near as good as The Office, it was better than expected. Ricky Gervais' movies so far hasn't really been up to his TV work and that trend continues here. I really do think he needs Stephen Merchant as his writing partner and it's a shame they have gone their separate ways. Especially when it comes to this movie. It needed Stephen Merchant input as well. But it still gave me a few big laughs. The ending was pretty bad though. Everyone in the band hates David Brent for 90 percent of the movie and then suddenly out of the blue they all like him and we get no real reason for it. So yeah, this is not as good as The Office was, but still worth watching if you are a fan of the show.

"Knowing a famous author is better than becoming one. It shows you're connected." Director: Lone Scherfig Writers: Nick Hornby and Lynn Barber Cinematographer: John de Borman Composer: Paul Englishby Cast: Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina, Cara Seymour, Olivia Williams, Dominic Cooper, Rosamund Pike, Matthew Beard, Sally Hawkins and Emma Thompson Review: This was another one of those movies i really wanted to watch back when it first came out, but never got around to. And that's a shame because i really enjoyed it. The performances all around were just perfect. Carey Mulligan proves once again why she is one of m favorite actresses working today. She definitely deserved her Oscar nod for this. I am however shocked that Alfred Molina didn't get one for his performance here. This has to be one of the best performances i have seen from him. There is especially one small scene with him near the end that broke my heart. My only complaint with the movie is that the ending was a bit abrupt. I feel like they could have taken another 10 minutes or so to pad it out and not make it seem so rushed. But other than that i pretty much loved this movie. Gonna see if i can find it on blu-ray now.
