"Today is the day when everything changes. One way or another." Director: Asger Leth Writer: Pablo F. Fenjves Cinematographer: Paul Cameron Composer: Henry Jackman Cast: Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Genesis Rodriguez, Titus Welliver, Edward Burns, William Sadler, Kyra Sedgwick and Ed Harris Review: If you ever want to watch a movie that offers no surprises than look no further. This has to me one of the most cliché riddled movies i have ever seen. Every single character is one you have seen a million times in movies before and the story is so predictable you could fall asleep ten minutes in and still guess the ending. My eyes hurt from rolling so much during the movie. If you want something to laugh at, go ahead and watch this, but if you want an actual suspenseful thriller then stay far, far away.

"Hey pa! Can I ask you a question?... How come you ain't never liked me?" Director: Denzel Washington Writer: August Wilson Cinematographer: Charlotte Bruus Christensen Composer: Marcelo Zarvos Cast: Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson and Saniyya Sidney Review: Denzel Washington is still one of my favorite actors working today so i try to catch everything he does these days. But i gotta be honest and admit he has been slumming it a bit lately in movies like The Equalizer and 2 Guns so it's great to see him finally give a fantastic performance again. He really deserved that Oscar nod. I haven't seen a performance this good from him since Training Day. And as good as he was, Viola Davis might have been even better. I really hope she finally wins her Academy Award for this one. The scene those two had together amazing. Really the entire cast were great here. And i didn't know Denzel also directed this until i niticed that in the credits. He really hasn't directed much before this, just two movies and an episode of Grey's Anatomy (what?), but i think he's got a real talent for it. Now there wasn't anything about the directing here that stood out too much, but i don't think the movie called for that. It's just about a family shot mostly in their backyard. Hopefully this is a turning point for Denzel and he will continue to give great peformances like this again from now on.

"Your mother, she was beautiful. But she married a weak man. And then she gave birth to another." Director: Antti Jokinen Writers: Antti Jokinen and Robert Orr Cinematographer: Guillermo Navarro Composer: John Ottman Cast: Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lee Pace, Aunjanue Ellis and Christopher Lee Review: It's not often i get to watch a movie i have never even heard of before, but while browsing Netflix today, this caught my eye. I like the cast and the plot sounded kinda cheesy so i decided to give it a go. I understand now why i had never heard about this one before. It was pretty generic. The acting was good all around. Especially for a cheesy thriller like this. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was great. But this movie still gave me more unintentional laughs than thrills. Especially near the end when it gets all kinds of crazy. We also didn't get any kind of resolution to the story. As soon as the bad guy dies, the movie ends. I'm not even exaggerating. The bad guy dies, we cut to a shot of New York, and the credits roll. Well, i guess i can't complain about a shorter running time. They knew they didn't have anything else to offer so they just cut it off there. Oh well.

"I can't beat it. I can't beat it. I'm sorry." Director: Kenneth Lonergan Writer: Kenneth Lonergan Cinematographer: Jody Lee Lipes Composer: Lesley Barber Cast: Casey Affleck, Lucas Hedges, Kyle Chandler, Michelle Williams, Gretchen Mol, C.J. Wilson, Ben O'Brien and Matthew Broderick Review: This is one of the movies i have been looking forward to the most in 2016. I had heard nothing but great things about it before watching it. Very good performances all around. Casey Affleck proves once again who got the acting talent of the Affleck brothers. Michelle Williams was not in this a lot, but damn does she deliver in the few scenes she has. Especially her last one. The rest of the movie was a little slow though. Not a lot happens. Still a good movie, just not as great as i had hoped.

"I am in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved, and I'm armed! Don't *mess* with me!" Director: Donald Petrie Writers: Marc Lawrence, Katie Ford and Caryn Lucas Cinematographer: László Kovács Composer: Ed Shearmur Cast: Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen, William Shatner, Ernie Hudson, John DiResta, Heather Burns, Melissa De Sousa, Steve Monroe and Deirdre Quinn Review: i don't think i had watched this movie since a rented it on VHS back when it first came out. I remember liking it back then, but not enough to even pick it up on VHS or DVD. But after watching it again today on Netflix i might see if i can find a blu-ray because it was actually pretty good. Sandra Bullock is always great and this is the type of role she was born to play. The movie would have never worked with someone else in the lead role. The supporting cast were also all good. Especially Michael Caine, but i probably didn't need to point that out. It's far from a perfect movie, but definitely i could watch again. I'll probably stay away from the sequel though. I hear that one is awful. Sandra Bullock said so herself.

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Director: Christopher Nolan Writers: Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer Cinematographer: Wally Pfister Composers: James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Eric Roberts, Nestor Carbonell, Ritchie Coster, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael Jai White, William Fichtner, Chin Han, Keith Szarabajka, Colin McFarlane, Ron Dean, Tommy 'Tiny' Lister and Cillian Murphy Review: I don't think i have ever changed my mind so much about a movie as this one. The first time i saw it, i thought it was just alright. Then the next few times it just got better and better until i gave it a perfect score, but now i feel that might have been too much. While it is a great movie, it does still have a lot of flaws and plot holes. It's not as bad with the plot holes as The Dark Knight Rises was, but these is still a lot. Spoilers here, but who hasn't seen this movie yet? I still don't understand why it had to be Batman who took the fall for Harvey Dent's murders. Why not just blame it on The Joker or his goons? Who is gonna question that? I would have a lot more questions if all of a sudden Batman started killing cops for no reason. But anyway, it's still a great movie. Especially compared to Batman v Superman. Look here DC fanboys. This is what a good Batman movie looks like.

"People are afraid of all the wrong things." Director: Scott Frank Writers: Scott Frank and Lawrence Block Cinematographer: Mihai Malaimare Jr. Composer: Carlos Rafael Rivera Cast: Liam Neeson, Brian 'Astro' Bradley, Dan Stevens, David Harbour, Adam David Thompson, Boyd Holbrook, Razane Jammal and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson Review: I remember really wanting to watch this one back when it came out, but once i missed it in theaters i just sort of forgot about it until now. And that's a shame because i really liked it. I'm a big fan of dark detective stories like this. It wasn't the most original story, but it kept me interested throughout it. The ending was a bit ridicules though and it dragged on for way too long. There were several moments where it could have ended, but it just kept going. Liam Neeson was giving his usual Liam Neeson performance these days. It wasn't quite up there with his performance in The Grey, but certainly better than something like Taken 2 or 3. Overall, it was well worth watching if you are a fan of the genre or just Liam Neeson in general. Everyone else probably won't miss much.

"At some point, you gotta decide for yourself who you're going to be. Can't let nobody make that decision for you." Director: Barry Jenkins Writers: Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney Cinematographer: James Laxton Composer: Nicholas Britell Cast: Alex R. Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes, Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monáe, Naomie Harris, Jaden Piner, Jharrel Jerome and André Holland Review: This is one of those movies i went into knowing absolutely nothing about. I never watched a trailer for it and never read a review for it. I just noticed a lot of people putting it on their best of 2016 lists so i decided to check it out. And i'm glad i did because it was fantastic. I was hooked for the opening scene. The cinematography alone made sure of that. This movie looked gorgeous. And the acting was also fantastic from everyone involved. Especially the three actors playing the main character. I'm surprised they managed to find three actors that looked this much like each other and also knew how to act this well. It was kind of like Boyhood except not boring. I can't wait to watch this movie again on blu-ray.

"People love what other people are passionate about." Director: Damien Chazelle Writer: Damien Chazelle Cinematographer: Linus Sandgren Composer: Justin Hurwitz Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend, Callie Hernandez, Jessica Rothe, Sonoya Mizuno, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock, Jason Fuchs and J.K. Simmons Review: I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but i really loved the directors previous movie, Whiplash, so i decided to check this one out anyway. And i really enjoyed it. The songs were all mostly fine, but it was the performances that made the movie for me. Ryan Gosling and especially Emma Stone were both fantastic in this one. I can definitely see why they are getting so much awards buzz for this movie. And while the story was nothing ground breaking, it still kept me interested throughout the movie. I'm really curious to see what director Damien Chazelle does next. He has made two great movies in a row now.
