Villmark 2
09.05.2017
"You've been here a long time..." Director: Pål Øie Writers: Pål Øie and Kjersti Helen Rasmussen Cinematographer: Sjur Aarthun Composers: Trond Bjerknes and Roy Westad Cast: Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Tomas Norström, Baard Owe, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen and Renate Reinsve Review: I don't understand how this is a sequel to Villmark, or Dark Woods as it is known outside of Norway. Aside from a story about a German soldier crashing his plane into a lake during world war 2 and the fact that someone gets attacked in a tent at one point, there is nothing connecting the two movies. This one doesn't even take place in the woods. It takes place in an abandoned mental hospital that i guess is in the woods, so that's how they got around the title. It's just such a generic setting for a horror movie. The first one creeped me out because it took place in the dark woods of Norway and i'm surrounded by that. I have never, and will never, stay the night at an abandoned mental hospital. The cast of characters were also all boring and generic horror movie character that gets picked off one by one and i could not care less. The cast in the first one felt like real people that were friends and co-workers. When someone died in the first one it was actually sad. The first Dark Woods movie might not have aged well, but it is still way better than this generic horror movie. It's pretty obvious they only called this Villmakr 2 to sell a few more tickets based on the originals cult status in Norway.

"When you're alone at night, and your rage takes over and you want an avenger, what face do you put with your enemy?" Director: Clint Eastwood Writers: David Baldacci and William Goldman Cinematographer: Jack N. Green Composer: Lennie Niehaus Cast: Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, E.G. Marshall, Scott Glenn, Dennis Haysbert, Judy Davis, Melora Hardin and Richard Jenkins Review: Another very good thriller from Clint Eastwood. The cast was excellent all around, but i wish we would have gotten even more from Gene Hackman. He is second billed, but he really isn't in the movie all that much.

Cool Runnings
07.05.2017
"Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time! Cool Runnings!" Director: Jon Turteltaub Writers: Lynn Siefert, Michael Ritchie, Tommy Swerdlow and Michael Goldberg Cinematographer: Phedon Papamichael Composer: Hans Zimmer Cast: Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba, John Candy, Raymond J. Barry, Peter Outerbridge, Paul Coeur, Larry Gilman and Charles Hyatt Review: This was one of my favorite movies as a kid and one i still put on whenever i need to be cheered up a little. It's just such a feel good movie. It's a little dated today, but i just think it adds to the charm of it. This also made me really miss John Candy again. He was one of the best.

" Cats come when they feel like it. Not when they're told." Director: Pitof Writers: Theresa Rebeck, John Brancato, Michael Ferris and John Rogers Cinematographer: Thierry Arbogast Composer: Klaus Badelt Cast: Halle Berry, Benjamin Bratt, Sharon Stone, Lambert Wilson, Frances Conroy, Alex Borstein, Michael Massee and Byron Mann Review: This movie is just baffling. I can't believe anyone ever thought this was gonna be good. At least it's one of the best so-bad-it's-good movie. I laugh my ass off every time i watch it.

Dark Woods

"We should have stayed away from that lake." Director: Pål Øie Writers: Pål Øie and Christopher Grøndahl Cinematographers: Sjur Aarthun and Tore Vollan Composer: Trond Bjerknes Cast: Kristoffer Joner, Bjørn Floberg, Eva Röse, Sampda Sharma, Marko Iversen Kanic and Simon Norrthon Review: This was one of my favorite movies as a teenager, but rewatching it now as an adult, i can see it had a lot of flaws. It's still very creepy and a big reason i still don't like going into the woods around here, but it has not aged well at all. Norway really hasn't gotten very good at making movies until a few years after this was made. Older Norwegian movies always look awful. The pacing of the movie is also all over the place and there are a lot of unnecessary scenes that don't really make a lot of sense. There is probably a reason i am one of the few people that still remember the movie, even in Norway.

Miami Vice

"Luck ran out. This was too good to last." Director: Michael Mann Writer: Michael Mann Cinematographer: Dion Beebe Composer: John Murphy Cast: Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Li Gong, Naomie Harris, Ciarán Hinds, Justin Theroux, Barry Shabaka Henley, Luis Tosar, John Ortiz, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Domenick Lombardozzi, Eddie Marsan and John Hawkes Review: I had not watched this movie since around it's release, so i wanted to rewatch it to see if it was better than i remembered, and it was pretty much the same. Very cool looking with some great shoot outs, but ultimately pretty boring. It was also way too long. They could have easily shaved off a good 20 minutes and not lost a lot. Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox, who i usualy like, also looked like they hated being there. They gave this movie absolutely nothing. If not for Michael Mann's excellent directing, this would have been a total waste. I would like to see him try to reboot it again with a different cast and better script. Maybe for TV again. TV shows these days are a lot of the time better than most movies released so i'm sure Michael Mann could do something cool with Miami Vice for TV again.

"The thing appeared. Same place. Exact same time. But it just made a bunch of weird hand gestures." Director: Nacho Vigalondo Writer: Nacho Vigalondo Cinematographer: Eric Kress Composer: Bear McCreary Cast: Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Austin Stowell, Tim Blake Nelson, Dan Stevens, Hannah Cheramy and Nathan Ellison Review: This was not what i expected at all. The trailer made it out to be some sort of goofy comedy, but it was much darker than that. The trailer was very misleading, but i still really enjoyed the movie. It was something completely original which is very unusual these days. Anne Hathaway was great as usual. I actually think this is one of my favorite performances from her. Jason Sudeikis was also very good giving a much different performance than i have ever seen from him before. I don't really want to say much more than that because of the trailer. It doesn't really give away anything and i think that was for the best. This really is one of my favorite movies of the year so far and definitely worth checking out in theaters. Original movies like this deserve as much support as possible these days.
